Terms & Privacy

By using Tricky Bits, you agree to the terms below. They are intentionally short — this is a puzzle site, not a financial product.

What Tricky Bits is

Tricky Bits is a free, client-side puzzle platform. There are no accounts, no payments, and no subscriptions. The site is provided as-is, for entertainment and educational purposes.

Fair play

  • Cheating is allowed. Answers are checked in the browser. You can inspect the source, read the JavaScript, or work backwards from hashes. We will not stop you, and we will not police it.
  • Be kind to other solvers. Do not publicly post spoilers, answers, or step-by-step walkthroughs without a clear warning. Let people enjoy the puzzles at their own pace.
  • No abuse. Do not use the site, its content, or the community spaces (GitHub) to harass others, distribute malware, or break the law.

Content

  • Puzzle content, text, and design are the work of the Tricky Bits authors and contributors unless stated otherwise.
  • The site generator (TBB — Tricky Bits Builder) is open source under the license stated in the GitHub repository.
  • You may share links to individual challenges freely. For redistribution or republication of puzzle content, please check the repository license or ask first.

No warranty

The site, the puzzles, and the generator are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee:

  • That every puzzle is solvable as designed
  • That the site will be available at all times
  • That your progress will never be lost (export it if you care about it)

Use the site at your own risk. We are not liable for any loss, damage, or frustration arising from puzzle attempts.

Privacy

Tricky Bits is a client-side puzzle platform. We do not run a backend that tracks you, profiles you, or stores your data on our servers.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not operate accounts, analytics, ad networks, or third-party trackers on this site.

What stays on your device

Tricky Bits uses your browser's localStorage to save:

  • Your progress through challenges
  • Which hints you have revealed
  • Your submitted answers
  • Completion state of puzzle collections

This data:

  • Never leaves your device
  • Is scoped to the browser and device you are using
  • Can be exported, restored, or wiped at any time from "Manage Progress" in the footer

Hosting

The site is served as static files. Standard web server access logs (IP, user agent, requested path) may be retained by the hosting provider for operational and security purposes. We do not link these logs to any identity and do not use them for tracking.

Pages on Tricky Bits may link to external sites (GitHub, references inside individual puzzles). Once you follow such a link, the destination's own privacy policy applies. We have no control over how those sites handle your data.

Cookies

Tricky Bits does not set cookies. Only localStorage is used, and only for the progress data described above.

Children

Tricky Bits collects no personal data from anyone, including children. The platform is safe to use without an account.

Changes

These terms and privacy practices may be updated over time. Continued use of the site means you accept the current version. Because no accounts exist, there is no way to notify users individually — please check back if you want to stay current.
